Mums and Bubs Yoga

Mums and Bubs Yoga @ The Yoga Shed

Being a Mum is exciting, joyful and exhausting. Mums are often overtired and find it hard to find time for themselves. The focus of these Yoga for Mums classes is on getting fit and strong, finding ‘quiet time’ for you while having your baby/toddler around.

As a Mum, being driven by demands of others, we sometimes forget who we are and to see how special our child is. In these  classes we focus on finding some stillness and time for ourselves so that we can start enjoying our baby/toddler again. Also the classes will help you to build up strength and stamina. After all, when you feel good about yourself, you can be good for your environment, including your child.

The children can play alongside Mum, crawl around to explore the yoga studio and the toys, play with other children, or even join in and do some yoga too.

These classes also provide the opportunity to get in touch with and talk to other mums, something so important for new mothers.

You will learn:

  • to become strong and flexible (while having some fun)
  • core strength and pelvic floor exercises, and
  • simple meditation and breathing exercises.

Yin Yoga – Friday

Yin Yoga has the amazing ability to bring you back to yourself. In this class you will soften into poses in order to hold them for longer (3-5 minutes) so that the goodness of the pose can travel deep into your body and mind. Yin yoga is challenging and different; it works deep into your joints and tissues, leaving you with an amazing feeling afterwards. There’s no better way to get ready for the weekend! This class is great for everyone, and especially suitable for people with back and joint issues.

Restorative takes the best of yin and adapts it to be safer and more effective for long term practice. Using props such as bolsters, blankets and blocks, this style of yoga addresses the modern day epidemic of stress and anxiety by allowing slow and deep immersions in postures without any effort for 45mins. Followed by a 30min deep mindfulness meditation practice

Gentle Yoga

This yoga class is designed for, but not restricted to, the over 50s and has a focus on flexibility and balance through gentle body movements. It is suitable for people with limited mobility, recovering from illness or injury, those with bigger bodies or anyone who would like to try yoga for the first time in a supportive and personalised environment. People with limited flexibility and mobility issues can be accommodated with the use of props such as bolsters and chairs.

Yoga Focus

This is a fun, invigorating Hatha yoga class where each week we aim to have a special focus. The focus could be a pose or a group of poses (like back bends or standing poses), a body part (like shoulders, back or core), or another focus like moving with the breath or with a flow. Students are invited to make requests for the focus of future classes.

This class is a medium intensity flow that focuses on linking breath and movement to create presence in the mind and body.  This class also provides the opportunity to work with more challenging poses and a time to reflect and release in restorative poses.

A gentle start to your yoga practice or a chance to revisit the fundamentals if you have an established practice. Yoga exercises mind, body and spirit to balance energies and provide tension release. A regular practice will increase flexibility and strength, provide greater ease and comfort in your body, reduce stress and tension, increase self awareness, aid circulation, digestion and respiration and give an overall sense of wellbeing.

Yoga Evolve

A gentle to moderately strong practice (depends how you want to work) that will help you to delve a little deeper into the practices of Yoga.  The class offers a combination of breath work “pranayama”, refining physical posture “Asana”, as well as developing the capacity to retain the benefits of the experience “Dharana Shakti”.  This is a class not to be missed, and of course, a wonderful “savasana” to gently wind down and relax at the end. A class to evolve your practice and experience.

Hatha Yoga

Hatha yoga refers to a set of physical exercises (known as asanas or postures), and sequences of asanas, designed to align your skin, muscles, and bones. The postures are also designed to open the many channels of the body—especially the main channel, the spine—so that energy can flow freely.

Hatha is also translated as ha meaning “sun” and tha meaning “moon.” This refers to the balance of masculine aspects—active, hot, sun—and feminine aspects—receptive, cool, moon—within all of us. Hatha yoga is a path toward creating balance and uniting opposites. In our physical bodies we develop a balance of strength and flexibility. We also learn to balance our effort and surrender in each pose.

Kids yoga @ the Yoga Shed starts again next week ( from 2 Feb). Every Thursday from 4.15-5pm with Juliana. $100 for 10 classes.

Yoga is very good for kids. In these classes we work in a fun way to help them connect to there body, become more flexible and strong, and we teach some meditation to help focus their mind.
